Team Foundry,
Thank you for your patience with me in getting an update on 17.5 to you! I was at home last week with my family and it put me a little behind on my communication. That said, I can hardly believe the Open is over! The last week was just as fun and inspiring as each of the previous weeks – and a really exciting way to wrap up the Open. 17.5 was a tough one— containing my personal nemesis, Thrusters (one of two situations in which it’s bad to be 6’5″, the other being airplane seats). So many athletes pushed themselves to finish in our edited 25 minute time cap, which is really cool! Thrusters and double unders forever! (Riiiiiight…?!)
On behalf of the coaching staff, thank you to all participants! Thank you for your participation, your energy, your determination, and your support! With over 100 athletes involved, it was our best Open yet. I loved seeing your enthusiasm, camaraderie, team and community spirit. It reminds me of why I wanted to do this in the first place. Coming back from an injury that caused me to miss the 2016 season, I had an amazing time participating this year, and your involvement helped me surpass my performance expectations.
Thank you also to all of our coaches and staff who helped prepare for each event, worked the events, judged, coached, and participated. I am so thankful to be surrounded by leaders like you who work so hard to help others reach their goals.
Another shout out to all of the captains who helped lead each team through planning practices and team bonding outings, encouraging team members to dress up and show team spirit, and generally playing a huge role in the success of the Foundry Open! You guys rocked it!
Week 5 Recap & Standings
Heading into week five, teams looked to solidify their final positions with several placements still up for grabs. Week five featured the biggest and best themes yet! Each team had a unique style and really worked together to show spirit and camaraderie. Here’s are some of the highlights…
AMrap and Chill seriously went all out with their professionally designed matching t-shirts. Their theme came together perfectly and matched their style of early risin’ and drinking beer (and getting to bed by 9). The slogan on the back was obviously their AM motto, “The early bird gets the GAINZ!” Team AMrap and Chill finished the Open tied for 3rd place with 168pts.
A Couple Snatches and a Few Jerks went ninja on us in Week 5. Complete with headbands and warrior death stars, they came prepared to dominate in the final week. (Their skills were put to the test when the pizza arrived and several ninjas dropped down from the ceiling slicing, dicing, and crouched, ready to attack.) CS&FJ also tied for 3rd place with 168pts.
Printers Row teams really pulled out all the stops in Week 5! WODing Crashers showed their love for mornings by coming to Week 5 FNL dressed in their pajamas. We saw all kinds of pjs worth mentioning (ahem, onesies), but it was their photo props that really helped nail the theme—a blow-up mattress fitted in cozy sheets, matching team eye masks, stuffed animals and boxes of cereal for morning nourishment. They came ready to take the Open and really came close—they finished up in 2nd place with 232pts.
WODing Crashers creativity was impressive throughout the Open, but it just wasn’t enough to surpass Mutha’ Thrusters’ love for their “Well-oiled Wednesdays”. The team bonding points were worth quite a bit and the Mutha Thrusters bonded a lot! They came dressed to impress in week 5 with ALL of the bro gear. Do they even lift, bro?! I’d say so. They are your Foundry Open 2017 champs with 279pts.
